This looks maybe like a city from the 17th century, but this is actually how Haarlem still looks - if cars are not around. The colour scheme which has been used gives the painting it's classical atmosphere. Here you see I became aware of the technique of doing underpaintings first, and it shows in the beautiful balance of lights and darks. It is a painting of medium size made on mdf, which is an excellent bearer for oil paint.
